Basecamp Gear – Whats coming with us

A selection of camp gear will be provided and maintained by the hosts – Willie and Tony. This is gear that is meant to facilitate a comfy camp, and minimize the amount of gear some may need to purchase.

Basecamp Tent – Bell Tent Yurt with Stove Jack

This six man tent can accommodate sleepers if needed, but you will still need to provide your own sleeping pads and bags. The intention for this tent is a place to store gear, packs, and supplies, so space it limited.

Five evening Dinners

Prepared in advance, and ready to provide hearty eats on cold nights. You will still be responsible for 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches, plus any snacks you want to bring. Beef Jerky, Cookies, water flavor packets.

Water Purification – Gravity filter, 2 gallon filter, 2 gallon storage.

This will remain at all times in the center basecamp tent, but if you intend to travel away from camp for a night or two, you will want to bring personal water filtration. I recommend Sawyer Squeeze Filters and 1 liter “Smartwater brand” Bottles. These smart water bottles have survived countless trips, and are easy to grab from any gas station.

UHF radios/Walkie-Talkies

There will be 4 radios, each with a “5 mile” range on open water. One radio will always remain in camp unless no one will be at camp. If you leave camp, a radio should go with you for emergency contact.

Garmin SOS beacon

At camp will be a Garmin SOS beacon, that can be taken by a remote team for forays away from camp. Base camp will be on an access lake, so if there are injuries, or emergencies, we will load them into the motor boat and take them roadside. Deeper into the park, you can always call for an SOS beacon. The Garmin will also contain the optional routes, so you have no worries about getting lost when navigating.

Navigation Maps

We will also have a set of water protected maps that show all routes, sites, and lakes in the BWCA area where we will be.

Solar Power

We will have two solar panel stations that will be used to charge large battery banks from sun up to sun down. If you have a device that needs a charge, you can connect to the battery banks. If you intending to venture out, I recommend grabbing one from the recommended personal gear list page.

Bear Bags

All food must be secured at night into bear bags. These will be part of the base camp gear list and will hold all food. Do not handle the bear bag if you have food residue on your hands or it will be easily scented by the bears in the park.
